5-17-11 New Area (Camaragibe) Same Comp

                                            This is a real grasshopper!!

Tuesday morning, May 17, 2011

Hello fam,
Sorry I didn't send anything yesterday, it was a very busy day. I am in Camaragibe and will probably send you an email later today to update. This area is way better, I'm liking it. It's also really big and we travel a lot in vans and buses.

Shoes... I forgot about the guarantee and when my slip-on ones got holes in them I gave them to Halvorsen because they were still nicer than his. And he wore them home. The other pair I still use and when it gets holes I'll send pictures. I bought a pair of shoes from a construction store here that will probably last for a long time (the soul is ridiculously thick) and they were only 40 reais. When I send the picture of my missionary mall shoes, just have them send the shoes to our house, and I can have a nice new pair of shoes waiting for me when I get home. that way we won't have to worry about postal cost and stuff.

And about converts... hopefully someone I baptize on my mission actually stays active. I went to san martin this week with one of the lzs to help teach ademilde, a lady who is still investigating (I started teaching her with elder prieto). She was gonna get baptized but didn't. Just has a problem leaving the social aspect of spiritualism. I found out that cleonice stopped going to church. Ruan goes sometimes.  And really disappointing is that Cassia is not going to church. She still has a testimony, but there are a lot of problems in her life, for example the rain destroyed her house (the roof literally fell), and now she's moving. One good thing is that this weekend the missionaries there are baptizing a lady that was a referral from Cassia.

At church on Sunday I got to talk to Adlan a little too, because he lives here in Camaragibe. He is in the other ward, but we talked a bit and he is still thinking about serving a mission maybe, although he's just been going to church off and on.

Last week we hardly taught any lessons, because we spent lots of time working with members. It was good though because different members brought 4 people to church that we will start to teach this week.

I live in a house with 6 missionaries (including me) and from last Saturday until this Thursday there is no water in the house, not even to flush the toilet. Yesterday we went to another missionary house to take showers, and hopefully tonight we can with buckets in our house.

The ward here is much more helpful and we are planning to do the exact same dessert contest this Saturday that we did in Setubal. Hopefully people go, and bring friends.

[I told him that his sister Emily raced in the Channel Islands Southern California "prelims" on Saturday and ran the 800m in 1 minute, 20.12 seconds. You'll need to remember the going joke between them is that to Jon Emily is always 9 years old!]
